How to Set Up Feed to Post's Word Trimming Options

Word Trimming

Feed to Post gives you the ability to trim the content you are importing in two ways.

  1. Trim the Content
    1. This is the standard trimming. The contents of the post will be shortened so that the number of words matches the number set in the Word Limit option. If the original source has images or any other media that come after the word limit is met, they will not be imported as they are outside the limit.
  2. Generate an Excerpt
    1. This option will not shorten the actual content of the post. Instead, it will create a copy of the content, trim it, and use it as the post’s excerpt. Use this option if your theme supports excerpts and you wish to show excerpts on your site when listing multiple posts but show the full content of the post on the post’s individual page.

Word Trimming Settings

The Word Trimming options can be found in:

  1. Each feed source's Add New or Edit page,
    1. You can set the feed source to use the general Feed to Post Word Trimming settings (below) or you can set it to use a custom option. You can choose from the following options:
      1. Use General Settings - This will use the settings you’ve set in the General Settings of Feed to Post.
      2. Enabled - This will apply the individual settings that you’ll set from this meta box.
      3. Disabled - Your other option is to disable this feature for this particular feed source.
  2. The general Feed to Post Settings page.
    1. You can set a general Word Trimming option that will be used for all sources that are set to Use General Settings as explained above.

NOTE: Entering zero, less than zero, or leaving the individual feed source option blank (when Enabled) will use the word limit set in the Feed to Post general settings page

NOTE: If you are encountering issues with missing tags in the post content when using this word trimming feature, please have a look at this possible solution.
