Display Settings

Once you install the free core WP RSS Aggregator plugin, you will be presented with a long list of display settings.

These display settings can be set from the  Settings section under the RSS Aggregator menu item, and they affect the shortcode display of feed items.

NOTE: When using the  Feed to Post add-on, all the display settings are hidden and no longer applicable, since Feed to Post uses a different way of displaying the imported posts (without using the shortcode).  Click here to learn more.

Below is an explanation of each setting available in the WP RSS Aggregator display settings.

To see a screenshot of the display settings,  click here.

General Display Settings

Link title

Check this box to make the feed item titles link to the original article.

Title maximum length

Set the maximum number of characters to show for each feed item title. Leave empty to show the full title.

Show authors

Check this box to show the original author for each feed item, if it is provided by the RSS feed.

For video feed items use

For feed items from YouTube, Vimeo or Dailymotion, you can choose whether you want to have the feed item titles link to the original page link or a link to the embedded video player only. This will not affect already imported feed items.

Pagination type

The type of pagination to use when showing feed items on multiple pages.

The first option shows two links, “Older and “Newer”, which allow you to navigate through the pages.

The second option shows links for all the pages (numbered), together with links for the next and previous pages.

Feed display limit

This is the maximum number of feed items to display when using the shortcode.

This enables pagination if set to a number smaller than the number of items to be displayed.

Open links behaviour

Choose how you want feed item links to be opened. This applies to the feed item title and the source link.

Set link as nofollow

Enable this option to set all links displayed as “NoFollow”.

NoFollow provides a way to tell search engines not to follow certain links, such as links to feed items in this case.

Source Display Settings

Show source

Enable this option to show the feed source name for each feed item in the shortcode display.

Text preceding source

Here you can change the text that you want to show before the source name. A space is automatically added between this text and the feed source name, so there is no need to add one yourself.

EXAMPLE: Setting this to "The original source that published this article was" will show the following below the feed item title:

The original source that published this article was WP Mayor

...where WP Mayor is the name that you gave the feed source within WP RSS Aggregator.

Link source

Enable this option to link the feed source name to the RSS feed’s source site.

Date Display Settings

Show date

Enable this option to show the feed item’s date below the feed item title in the shortcode display.

Text preceding date

Here you can change the text that you want to show before the feed item date. A space is automatically added between this text and the feed item date, so there is no need to add one yourself.

EXAMPLE: Setting this to "This article was first published on" will show the following below the feed item title:

This article was first published on 24/04/2018

...where the format of the date shown is decided by the option explained below.

Date format

The format to use for the feed item dates, as a PHP date format.

Below this option, you will also find a link to the Formatting Date and Time page in the WordPress Codex.

Time ago format

Enable this option to show the elapsed time from the feed item’s date and time to the present time.

EXAMPLE: 2 hours ago

Styles - Disable styles

Check this box to disable all plugin styles used for displaying feed items. This will allow you to provide your own custom CSS styles for displaying the feed items. You can do this using wp_enqueue_style() in your child theme’s functions.php file.
